Northern Tea Merchants Newsletter No. 1 Written By James Pogson I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to our new web site. I hope you find it informative as well as a consistent source of supply for high quality teas and fine gourmet coffees. I have been sent a range of new WHITE TEAS to try by a friend of mine who has some contacts in China. These teas are absolutely wonderful, and quite rare, as they are only produced annually in very small quantities. They all have exotic and descriptive names such as the following… I have decided to purchase the above teas (and others) and will be listing them on the web site as soon as they arrive, along with proper descriptions and prices. I envisage around £5.00 per 50g as these are the most expensive teas I have ever purchased! My favourite two of the fifteen or so that I tried are the Jade Ring and the Golden Flower. The Jade Ring is a light green hand shaped ring of white tea that looks simply exquisite and has a pleasant nutty flavour. The Golden Flower is even less conventional and is a hand stitched blend of white and green China Teas that can be used more than once. (My friend says up to six times (!).) The Flower itself produces quite an individual taste with the fruitiness of Green Tea and the fine taste of White Tea that complement each other very well. White Tea gets its name from the silvery-white colour of the leaf on the bush, and the white down that grows on its buds. White tea is not fermented and is simply allowed to wither and dry. This gives it a very natural taste that is unlike any other tea. It is only grown in the Fujian province of China and is produced in very small quantities. If anyone wishes to contact me to discuss this newsletter then I will be more than happy to correspond. I can be mailed at…
