Some facts and figures about our company based on the last 48 years of trading!

I had some rare time on my hands last week, and I started thinking about some of the facts and figures behind our long-established business. Some of the figures caused a glow of pride when I told my father and staff!

DID YOU KNOW???

Northern Tea Merchants have been established over 48 years.

We employ 28 local people. Their total length of service is 231 years!

We pack enough tea and coffee every week for over 3 million cups to be enjoyed!

We still have some customers who have bought from us for 3 generations. Our longest-standing customer has been buying tea from my grandfather, father and me since 1936!

We were one of the first companies to manufacture tea bags in the UK. We have been making tea bags since 1962.

We supply over 3000 cafés, hotels, shops, wholesalers, retailers, councils, caterers and other commercial organisations.

We pack ‘own label’ tea bags, coffees & vending products for over 20 other businesses. Products we have produced are available in Sainsbury’s, Budgens & Asda.

We have received a total of 5 national awards during the 3 years our renowned tea shop has been open!

Our longest serving tea department employee has made approximately 1 BILLION tea bags during her career!

We usually hold bulk stocks of 700 to 1000 sacks of tea weighing over 50 tonnes.

We usually warehouse approx 1000 sacks of green coffee beans weighing about 70 tonnes.

Our head coffee roaster has roasted over 2,500,000 kilos (2,500 tonnes) of coffee during his career!

We have over £100,000.00 worth of tea and coffee brewing equipment that we are responsible for in our customers premises.
