AFRICAN TEAS
Kenya
Kenya is the leading African tea producing country. Much of the tea that is drunk in the UK originates from Kenya.
Generally speaking, that which is grown East of the rift is of a higher quality than that grown to the West of it. Kenya tea is bright, strong, flavourful and is used in many of the highly advertised brands. Tea estates from which we purchase our supplies are Kinoro, Gathuthi, Keigoi, Kangaita, Imenti, Rukuriri, Githambo, Mungania, Mununga, Theta and Thumaita.
Rwanda
The best Rwandan teas are excellent, possessing all the desirable characteristics tea should have. Top estates from which we purchase supplies are Mata, Gisovu and Kitabi.
Burundi
Burundi Teas are bright and colourful and are often used in good quality blends. The best known estates are Ijenda, Rwegura, Mabayi & Teza from which we purchase supplies.
Tanzania
Good Tanzanian teas are bright and colourful. We purchase supplies from two estates in Tanzania - Itona and Kibena, which are both on the Fairtrade Foundations list of approved sources.
Tea is also grown in Malawi, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Mozambique etc, but these teas are often 'price' teas that are suitable for blending to a cost.
