Kaldi Espresso blend, named after the 15th century legendary discoverer of coffee, the goatherd Kaldi.
Legend has it, Kaldi noticed that after eating the berries from a particular shrub, his goats were much more animated, jumping and bleating with joy, and so Kaldi picked a few of the berries and took them to the local Imam, explaining what he had noticed. Unfortunately (or fortunately) he was met with derision and the Imam threw the berries into the fire and ejected him from the Mosque. Some 20 minutes later, after the hot coals in the fire had burned the flesh away from the berries, the delicious smell of roasting coffee filled the Mosque. Kaldi was called back and asked where he found the berries and from this happy accident and subsequent experimentation, coffee-roasting, brewing and drinking was born.
We wanted to tick two boxes with this blend, we wanted an authentic traditional taste and we wanted to be able to sell it to both trade and domestic customers, needing to perform well in a variety of machines. We think you’ll be very happy with the result.
We’ve detected notes of cocoa mass, and even a hint of red wine, and the crema on the shots we’ve produced during testing has been thick and long-lasting, making this ideal for milk based Italian drinks like café latte or cappuccinos.
This espresso blend is made using coffees from the Mesopotamian Basin – the birthplace of coffee, paying tribute to Italian Espresso Blends of the stylish 60s. cafetière
