Product Description

This is our most popular blend. The mix of Colombian Medellin Excelso and Kenya AA make it an excellent-tasting coffee and stands well on a hotplate.

The story of our Mountain Deluxe blend starts in the early 1970s, when we originally started roasting coffee. At the time Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee was probably the best known but least consumed coffee in Britain. Many companies traded on the good name of Jamaican Blue Mountain and called coffees that were not from Jamaica, names like BMJ. My father however was concerned at the duplicity of this and so with the advent of Kenya Blue Mountain coffee being generally available in the UK in the early 1970s created a very simple but very effective blend of coffee that has been our best seller from the very moment it was introduced.

The recipe is very simple: our mountain is a blend of 50% Colombian Medellan Excelso and 50% Kenya AA Coffee (from either the Mount Kenya or Mount Elgon areas, which produce some of the best coffees in Kenya). The result is a well-rounded perfectly balanced blend that works equally well in filter or cafetiere with a fruity rich flavour. Its ability to stand well on a hot-plate meant that this coffee was incredibly popular with caterers (who at the time were mainly using filter machines) and its popularity has continued unabated throughout the filter age and on through the 1980s and 90s through the laid-back cafetiere age. However the inherent strength and acidity of this coffee means that it doesn‰’t work well in espresso as it makes the drinks too strong. This being said, we sell five cases of mountain to every other case of coffee blend we sell, so its popularity is showing no signs of waning.
