Product Description

A blend of large leaf China teas containing natural Jasmine flowers. We have been selling this superior tea for many years. Taste it and you will appreciate why it is so popular.

Jasminum officinale, also known as common jasmine or Jasmine (is actually from the Olive family) and is native to Iran, Pakistan, India, Nepal and Western China. It can be called summer jasmine, poets jasmine, white jasmine, true jasmine or jessamine and is a vigourous climbing plant which produces beautiful pure white flowers with a delightful scent.

Jasmine tea is probably the most well known and popular flavoured tea in China (茉莉花茶 pronounced mòlìhuā chá). There are records of Jasmine being used to flavor tea going back to 500AD but it did not become popular until the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) when it started to be produced in large quantities and demand in other countries led to it being exported all over the world.

In Fuzhou, Jasmine is often served to welcome guests and the Jasmine flower is the official flower of Fuzhou City.

There are several grades of Jasmine Tea with one of the top grades being Yin Hao, which is the grade we offer here. It is made using Jasmine blossoms and by alternating layers of tea and Jasmine blossoms in a very similar way to that which we have described in Ceylon Green Jasmine.

Each ‘scenting’ takes over 4hours and for top-grades of Jasmine can be repeated six or seven times. After ‘scenting’ the tea has to be dried again as it absorbs a small amount of moisture from the fresh Jasmine flowers.

Jasmine Tea can also be hand-rolled and made into small ‘pearls’ which we also sell, see our Jasmine Pearls White Tea.

Ingredients: Green tea, Jasmine flowers
